Head Start began in Muncie, Indiana, in 1967. Since then approximately 6,000 children benefited from the Head Start experience. Funded by Health and Human Services the program has grown to now serve 180 children in eight Center Based classrooms, 60 children in four Home Base Combination classrooms, and 40 in a Full Day classroom.
The program's design is to serve preschool age children from low-income families, as well as children with special needs, preparing them for kindergarten and offering them a "Head Start" on the road to their life-long learning experiences.
Areas of service offered to the children and their families are as follows:
Through Head Start we seek to help provide parents with a way to build a better life for their children and to enhance the dignity and self worth of the child and his/her family.
